Lake Maraetai
Based on the shores of Lake Maraetai, we have access to the most sheltered water of its size in the country. The 2.5 km stretch of water with no towing allowed when rowers are on the water.
Established in 2021, Mangakino Water Sports Camp is managed by voluntary committee members who are past rowers, that enjoy giving back to the sport, ensuring it remains a special place for years to come.
Mangakino Water Sports Camp provides a tranquil experience, offering water activities set in the beautiful, peaceful surroundings of Lake Maraetai in the Waikato region.
With waterfront access to the designated rowing zone straight onto the Lake, we are right on the water's edge with a 2.5 km stretch of water with no towing allowed when rowers are on the water.
Camp Facilities

The Top CampThe Top Camp comprises of bunk dorms in the main house, along with an upstairs loft and cabins. There is a main kitchen and dining hall facilities, and overall can accommodate up to 65 people.
Full kitchen facilities
The main dining room is open on one side during the summer and closed with a yellow canvas in the winter. The area is served by a large kitchen with a walk in chiller, freezer and gas ranges and ovens.
Rowing at Mangakino
Established in 2021, the Mangakino Water Sports Camp has been designed for youth, clubs, and teams seeking extensive water time. Nestledon the shores of Lake Maraetai, it’s a beloved retreat for many, including international rowing representatives.
The camp has a number of Concept 2 rowing machines for fitness and a range of skiffs and coach boats for hire. Visitors enjoy the relaxed setting, making for a memorable rowing experience.
